In September of 2009, Ken Dowe, a native of Greenvill how resideng in Dallas, TX, CHALLENGED the residents of Greenville to clean up, fix up and keep up the appearence of our once beautiful city. He offered to donate $50,000 if we matched his offer. By December 2009, not only did we match his offer, we surpassed it! As of April 2010, 263 Greenvillians have donated $62,844 for a total of $112,844.

Now with the money in the bank, it is time for us to… Clean Up, Fix Up, and Keep Up Greenville!

Project Funding
Organizations and Groups seeking funds for specific Clean Up and Fix Up projects may submit a project request form to:

What can you do NOW?

  • Display a positive attitude about Greenville!
  • Keep your own front yard “litter free”
  • Create and maintain an attractive yard
  • Use a car litter bag
  • Report Litterbugs who toss litter (including cigarette butts) out of their vehicle or who have litter flying out of the back of their truck. Call the Greenville Police Department at (662) 378-1515. Our Police Chief and Sheriff will mail a letter to the offender, warning them that if caught a second time, they will be fined up to $250.
  • Recycle! Take your cardboard and paper to the green bins near Taco Bell (HWY 1 South) and K-Mart (HWY 82 West). Plastic bags can be recycled at Wal Mart.
  • Use reusable shopping bags.

Its primary purposes are to certify and maintain certification with the Keep America Beautiful System and to coordinate, promote, support, encourage and advance efforts of the community to improve quality of life as it relates to beautification, the reduction of litter, and recycling. Projects of the committee include:
  • Annual Clean Up Day: City Councilmen select chairmen for each ward and enlist volunteers to help pick up litter on a designated Saturday in April. Volunteers are given gloves, litter bags and assignments of areas to clean up. A secret committee selects winners whose names appear on a plaque hanging in City Hall.
  • Yard of the Month: This committee selects outstanding yards in each ward during the months of May, June, July and August. Winners receive a Yard of the Month sign, and a photo of their yard will appear in the newspaper. In September, all winners put their signs back out for an overall display.
  • Adopt-A-Spots: Individuals and organizations may adopt public “spots” all over the city. Adopters agree to plant, keep litter free and maintain their spots. Where possible, adopters are encouraged to plant large yellow trumpet daffodils to support the committee’s efforts to make Greenville “The Daffodil City.”
  • Recycling: Encourages citizens to use re-usable cloth bags when grocery and store shopping to prevent excessive use of plastic and to take all excess clean paper, cardboard, junk mail, etc. to three green bins located in Kroger, WalMart, and K-Mart parking lots.
